This presentation demonstrates how Garvey was determined to show, teach, and explain the importance of each one of us learning who we are, as well as the power we have when we work together, rather than being as weak as the weakest link. Everyone must understand the fight and the struggle, moving forward in support of a leader in unity.

Wow!!! Mr. Garvey’s speech of 1921 was full of disgrace and shame for and to him!!! With all his leadership organization for the Afrikans, can’t help to believe some of this was done out of pure hate and Jealousy!!!

Such a blessing to be able to her Marcus Garvey's voice. He was an eloquent speaker.

Sadly, some of our great leaders at the time , like people in Jesus' day, rejected Mr. Garvey. I like Mr. Garvey's energy, motivation, relentless pursuit of his dreams. He's quite an inspiration.

Thank you for this educational experience.

WOW! What a privilege it is to be among the ones that could hear Marcus Garvey voice ,one of the three known recordings.

In this recording, Marcus Garvey refers to Negro leaders who tried to keep him from re-entering the United States:

EIGHT of Marcus Garvey’s Black enemies wrote the U.S. State Department in 1921, saying that the UNIA "was composed of the most primitive and ignorant element...Negro sharks and Negro fanatics." They asked for Marcus Garvey to be deported. This was part of their "Garvey Must Go" campaign.

These "Negro leaders" included:

W.E.B DuBois

who led the effort. He was a co-founder of the NAACP and thought that Blacks should be focused on education alone, with emulating and fitting in with white society. He felt Garvey was distracting Black people with talk of African redemption. DuBois called Garvey “the most dangerous enemy of the Negro race”.

A. Philip Randolph

led the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first successful African-American-led labor union. He said Garvey had "succeeded in making the Negro the laughing stock of the world.”, and called Garvey a "half-wit, low grade moron".

In reality, all eight of the so-called Negro leaders were jealous of incredible rising popularity of Marcus Garvey at the time. They were friendly with Garvey when he first arrived in Harlem a few years earlier, when THEY were considered the leaders of Black people. Once Marcus Garvey's popularity rose, millions of Black people joined Garvey's organization, including many of their former members. His success became a threat to their power, so they organized the "Garvey Must Go" campaign, held meetings, and wrote a letter to the State Department to try to keep him out of the country.

Sister Sharon is right! When the leader is building something, it hurts all of us when someone tries to destroy it! There are always those kinds of pessimistic people, and we should be wary of them.

Leadership is needed. Marcus Garvey provided Leadership 💯. There are levels of Leadership. While Garvey was the General without the loyal supporters there was a rift. We have to uphold our Leaders hand whether the Leader is home or abroad. When you are truly supportive of authority, supportive of the vision, you would not seek to undermined or dethrone the Leader. When we believe in the vision our actions should support that belief and we should protect it at all cost. Garvey Nation is the vision birthed within our Leaders that was originally birthed by Garvey to empower our race. If you believe that this vision will Empower our race. Why would you seek to discredit the Leader or anything associated with the vision. Let us support Garvey Nation with our whole heart and never let anyone discredit our Leader not the mission at hand. The Leader and the vision are one. We are a part of the whole vision of the Empowering of our race. No part is not needed. As we uplift one another we are protecting, preserving and strengthening the vision.
